Hornbill Academy is a space for social pedagogy and research. We produce writing, courses, podcasts, videos and events that examine urgent issues of public interest in the Global South such as ethics of artificial intelligence, urban planning etc.

Ethics of AI is our flagship twelve-week course examining the ethical fault lines of artificial intelligence — from the infrastructure and supply chains that produce AI hardware, to the labour that trains AI models, to the use of AI in warfare. Each week is anchored in specific cases and primary sources rather than abstract principles.

Students, researchers, educators, activists, policymakers, and anyone who wants to engage seriously with the ethical dimensions of technology. No technical background is required — the course draws on political economy, geography, law, and critical theory rather than computer science.
Yes. A limited number of scholarships are available for students, independent researchers, activists, and anyone for whom the fee would be a barrier. You can apply through the Courses page.
Hornbill Dialogues is our monthly in-person conversation series held in Bengaluru. These are intimate gatherings where we discuss the political-economic, ecological, and ethical dimensions of technology with researchers, practitioners, and the public.
